My Practice

My name is Lone (pronounced Lo-na) Odgers. I’m a registered acupuncturist and have been practising since 2008. I practice Classical Chinese Medicine and Japanese style acupuncture.

I have an independent family practice, treating women, men and children of all ages and I make house calls. I graduated from the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Victoria in 2008 and have a BSc in Psychology. I continue to deepen my knowledge and skills with my mentors Sharon Weizenbaum and Kiiko Matsumoto. My treatments include acupuncture, acupressure, moxibustion, cupping, and Chinese herbal medicine.

I would like to acknowledge and thank the traditional territory on which Form Health Clinic, in which I practice, is located. I also wish to acknowledge and thank the Snuneymuxw First Nation, who call this place home, and recognize that they are the original inhabitants of this land.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a safe and effective drug-free way to treat many conditions, both as a primary form of treatment and as a complement to conventional  medical treatment and other modalities such as massage, chiropractics, naturopathy, rolfing, osteopathy, physiotherapy and counselling.

Cupping

Cupping increases blood flow within vessels and capillaries so that tissues better receive nutrients and oxygen. When tissues receive good blood flow and are nourished, healing can take place and pain will diminish or resolve.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion involves burning a prepared form of mugwort  (Artemis vulgaris) on or near the skin. The action of pumping heat into one or more acupuncture points activates and strengthens circulation, absorption and healing in the local area.

Pregnancy and Postpartum Acupuncture

Receiving acupuncture from the start and throughout your pregnancy is a safe, drug-free way to maximize the good development of your pregnancy by supplementing, regulating and harmonizing the processes that are taking place in the body.

Acupuncture for Labour Preparation

In the last month of pregnancy, labour preparation acupuncture physiologically supports ripening of the cervix, and the relaxing and softening of the pelvic ligaments and tendons. This allows for easier opening of the baby gate, giving baby greater ease of passage.

Turning Breech

Moxibustion is a safe and effective technique for turning posterior, malpositioned and breech babies. An initial moxibustion treatment followed by 10 days of home treatment can help turn and keep baby in optimal position.

Acupressure for Labour

Acupressure is the application of pressure to acupuncture points using fingers. It is a safe, effective and accessible technique, making it ideal for your support people to do to relieve pain, promote contractions and help baby to descend during labour.

Labour & Induction Support

If labour stalls or you are scheduled to be induced, induction acupuncture (followed by acupressure given by your partner or support person) can help to promote dilation and contractions, and encourage labour to progress more efficiently.

House Calls

When clients are bedridden, or in hospital and elder care facilities, I make a house call. This makes treatment possible for people who otherwise might have trouble coming to the clinic.

Benefits of Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture

There are several benefits to receiving Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture treatments, which assist in improving overall health and well being.

Chinese Medicine

Chinese Medicine is one of the oldest continuous recorded medical systems in the world. Diagnosis is arrived at through detailed questioning of a person’s history and the symptoms that they are experiencing, feeling the quality of their pulses, observing the appearance of their tongue and assessing the feel of their abdomen when palpated. This approach makes it possible to diagnose people as individuals rather than as a disease label, making way for individualized treatment based on an individualized diagnosis.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the modalities of treatment in Chinese Medicine. Its effectiveness is in its capacity to regulate and balance the network of energetic pathways, called meridians, which connect the surface of your body to your internal organs. In health, Qi (pronounced ‘chi’), Blood and Fluids are abundant and flow smoothly through the meridians. When the flow is improper, obstructed or weak, physiological functions and processes can become impaired, impacting the body, thinking mind, feeling heart and spirit.

Testimonials

My husband and I had battled infertility for 11 years before I was referred to Lone by a friend. I had tried other acupuncturists and TCM practitioners before meeting her but without any success and without any real relationships being formed. When Lone came into our lives we were at the last step on our road and I was carrying the scars of more than a decade of losing our baby battle. I was overweight, depressed, exhausted and had only a germ of hope left. She worked intensively with me using her considerable skills with needling, moxibustion, herbs and talk therapy during our preparatory treatment phase to help me be as healthy as possible. Wonderfully, magically, I became pregnant! Lone stayed with me on the entire journey through pregnancy and postpartum care. She was also with me for the entire process of getting pregnant again and even provided treatment in the NICU after my twins were born at 33 weeks. I can say without a doubt that I would not have my wonderful family without Lone’s dedicated care. With deepest respect. — HS

Lone has been a miracle worker. I was introduced to her by a close friend many years ago. I was skeptical to how acupuncture may be able to help my ailments. My how I was mistaken- acupuncture helps everything from the physical to mental aspects of well being. Lone has the best bed side manner I've ever seen in a health care professional. She has a calmness around her and an ability to make you feel like you are the most important treatment she has to do all day. She gives you all the time you need to talk about your concerns and current issues. I've never felt rushed (like most health care roles) or embarrassed to admit any symptom. For those nervous about the needles she is also willing to stay in the room until you are comfortable with her stepping out of the room. She truly is an integral part of my well-being and I cannot advocate enough for her. Go see her- you will not be disappointed!! — LC

Most men do not have enough smart women involved in their health. I do. At the top of my list is Lo-na. She has been keeping me in good health for over six years, with suggestions, insight, and most important, her Acupuncture sessions. I ALWAYS leave her sessions cheerful, and physically Energized. I always know how many days until her next session. — LR
